Life Journey

Vijay studied at Fathima Matriculation Higher Secondary School and finished his schooling at Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School. Then, he joined Loyola College to pursue his graduation in Visual Communications. But, he dropped out of his studies as he needed to concentrate more on his acting career.

At the age of 10, Vijay made his acting debut as a child artist with the movie Vetri in 1984 which was directed by his father, S. A. Chandrasekhar. In 1992, Vijay began his acting career as a leading actor, in his father’s production movie, Nalaya Thearpu. After some more movies, he acted with Vijayakanth in the Sadhuruapandi movie. This movie made Vijay famous in the interior sections of Tamil Nadu

Career

In 1996, Vijay got his first successful movie Poove Unkaga directed by Vikraman, which helped him to settle in Tamil movies as an emerging star. After a few flops, he got success with the film Love Today. He starred in the Sunrise film Nerrukku Ner along with Sun Shiv Kumar in 1997. The movie was produced by Mani Ratnam. Then, Vijay acted in Fazil directed Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. This was recognized as a blockbuster movie and this film gave him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor of that year.

His next movie was Kusshi, the 2000 blockbuster movie. Then, films like Prianimanwala, Friends, again brought success. Thirumalai broke his string of unsuccessful movies in 2003, in which he was seen with a new face. Released in 2004, Ghilli is considered one of his highest hits. Directed by Dharani, it was a remake of the Telugu movie Okkadu and the film lasted for 200 days in theatres in Tamil Nadu.

Next, his first failed film was Aathi, which was released in 2006. This movie has been a bad box at the box office. Later that year, he announced the Pokkiri movie, which was directed by Prabhu Deva. Thi film got the same success as Ghilli, in which he had a chance to act in a strange style.

He then appeared in the 2009 action movie Villoo, which was directed by Prabhu Deva, who was intended to work with him after Pokkiri. In this film, he is seen in his career for the second time in a double role. In 2012, he signed the A. R. Murugadoss directed film Thuppakki ( an action thriller film). This film became the thirst highest grossed earning movie in Tamil to enter the 100 crores club.

Even this was also Vijay’s career’s first ever biggest commercial hit movie of all time. In 2013, he was fortunate to work again with action-thriller movies maker ace director AR Murugadoss for the film Kaththi starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. This movie became 2014, the highest grossed grossing movie at the Tamil box office in terms of collections.

In 2016, he signed the Atlee directed film There alongside Amy Jackson and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. It was a hugely successful film and also became the second-highest earner film with a substantial collection of Rs 172 crores at the Box office window and also the 2016 year’s highest earner too. Such gainers made him the Tamil superstar and gained mass popularity.
