Hershel Walker Early Life
Walker and his six other siblings grew up in a diligent blue-collar family. Walker was overweight as a child and stuttering was a problem for him. His mother, on the other hand, encouraged him to address his difficulties rather than making excuses for them.
He attended Johnson County High School, where he participated in basketball and track in addition to football. He aided the Johnson County Trojans, the school’s football team, in winning their first state championship.
Walker then transferred to the University of Georgia, where he became a three-time All-American while also winning important awards such as the Maxwell Award and the 1982 Heisman Trophy. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Hershel Walker Career
Walker signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 1986, and he was assigned to the fullback position. With the Cowboys, he signed a five-year, $5 million contract and developed tremendously as a player.
Walker elected to join the Minnesota Vikings three years later, with the Vikings willing to trade five players and six future selection picks to get Walker to their team. The Cowboys would gain a lot of skill if Walker was traded, so this was a tremendous deal for them as well.
That is precisely what happened with the Dallas Cowboys, who had excellent success with the trade’s talents. Walker played for them for a few years before moving on to the Philadelphia Eagles.
He then signed a three-year, $4.8 million deal with the New York Giants. He didn’t have much success with the Giants, though, due to a lack of alignment in the duties he was assigned.
Aside from his professional career, Walker became politically involved in his later years, identifying as a Republican. He announced his support for Secretary of State Brian Kemp and President Donald Trump, who appointed him to the Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition as co-chair.
Hershel Walker Personal Life
In 1983, Walker married Cindy DeAngelis Grossman, whom he met in college and fell in love with. Christian, the couple’s son, was born to them together with Cindy. They split in 2002 after nearly two decades of marriage. After that, he began dating Julie Blanchard, whom he would ultimately marry.
Walker is noted for his unconventional training methods, including the fact that he sleeps only five hours a night and eats only once a day. He also does not lift weights and instead performs over 1000 pushups and over 2000 sit-ups every day.
