About Pione Sisto

The Danish professional footballer Pione Sisto Ifolo Emirmija popularly known as Pione Sisto plays as a left-winger for Danish club Midtjylland as well as for the Danish national team. In his first five seasons with Midtjylland of the Danish Superliga, he made 114 appearances and scored 31 goals. He transferred to Celta Vigo for a fee of €5 million in 2016. In 2015, he made his senior debut for the Denmark national team and was part of their squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Pione Sisto was born on 4 February 1995 (age 23) in Kampala, Uganda, to Sisto Locco Majuleikwa and Masima Sisto Iccang. Pione’s parents moved to Denmark when he was two months old; they are South Sudanese.

Additionally, he has two sisters and two brothers named Angelo Sisto and Akari Loliha Sisto. Akari is a civil engineer who works in online stores, sometimes at Vesterbro, sometimes at Eternitten, and sometimes at Danmarksgade. Another brother Angelo has a professorship bachelor in economics.

Midtjylland

  • In the 2012–13 Danish Superliga season, Sisto made his league debut and scored his first professional goal in the match against AGF.
  • He scored twice in FC Midtjylland’s 5–1 away win over Copenhagen on 2 March 2014.

International Career

  • Morten Olsen, Danish national team manager, expressed his hope that Sisto would be eligible for selection since he was not a Danish citizen but had lived nearly his entire life in Denmark.
  • After receiving Danish citizenship in December 2014, Sisto was immediately chosen to play for the Denmark national under-21 football team, though in an unofficial match.
