She is the younger sister of Aishwarya R. Dhanush, who is a film director. Dhanush, the Tollywood superstar is her brother-in-law.
Soundarya got married to Ashwin Ramkumar who is an industrialist on 3 September 2010. Nevertheless, the marriage did not work out and they got separated in July 2017. The couple has a son, Ved Krishna. Later, Soundarya tied the knot with Vishagan Vanangamudi at The Leela Palace, Chennai On 11 February 2019. Vishagan is an actor and also operates a pharmaceutical company, Apex Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. in Chennai.

Career
Soundarya is also the founder and chief executive of Ocher Picture Productions. In the year 2007, Ocher Studios signed an agreement with Warner Bros Entertainment to partner up in producing and sharing Tamil movies. Her directorial début was deemed to be Sultan: The Warrior, a 3D animated film featuring her father Rajinikanth. Despite heavy pre-production promotion, including a teaser of the movie and an interactive website, the movie was dumped.
Soundarya instead directed Kochadaiiyaan, India’s first motion capture movie, with Rajinikanth in the main role. Through Kochadaiiyaan, Soundarya got the distinction of becoming the first woman to direct her father in a feature film.
At the NDTV Indian of the Year awards 2014, Soundarya was awarded for “Technical Innovation In Film”. Her next directorial work, Velaiilla Pattadhari 2, will be produced by S. Thanu in Tamil and Telugu languages.
