Life Journey

Huma Qureshi did her graduation in History Honours from the Gargi College, New Delhi. She followed ‘Act 1’ a theatre group in Delhi. Huma was mentored by the Indian theatre director and acting teacher, N. K. Sharma.

Later, Huma shifted to Mumbai from Delhi in 2008, to audition for a movie, Junction, which was never made. Later, she received a 2-year contract with Hindustan Unilever for TV commercials. Her first ad was for a cell phone with Abhishek Bachchan, in which she portrayed the role of a reporter. Qureshi came into the limelight with a mobile phone ad starring Aamir Khan and shot by Anurag Kashyap in Panchgani.

Career

Huma Qureshi performed in several TV commercials including a mobile ad with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. While shooting for the ad for the Samsung phone, Anurag Kashyap told her that he will cast her in his movie. Later, Anurag proposed a 3-film deal with his company Anurag Kashyap Films. In 2012, Huma debuted in Gangs of Wasseypur-Part 1, in which she played the role of Mohsina. Her performance was praised by the fans and the critics.

Following the progress of the first part, Huma reprised her character of Mohsina in the 2nd installment of the Gangs of Wasseypur series, Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2. It opened to broad critical acclaim, and her character again got positive reviews. That same year, She finished her 3-film contract with Anurag Kashyap Films by appearing in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, a romantic comedy, which represents a quest for an antique family dish, Chicken Khurana.

In 2013, Huma was cast as a witch in the supernatural thriller Ek Thi Daayan, alongside Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, and Konkona Sen Sharma. Soon afterward, She portrayed the titular role in the short film Sujata, released as one of the segments of Shorts, an anthology movie by Anurag Kashyap.

Her consequent release that year included the underworld drama D-Day, in which Qureshi appeared as Zoya Rehman, an explosive R.A.W agent. Huma featured in Abhishek Chaubey’s black comedy Dedh Ishqiya in 2014, a sequel to the 2010 movie Ishqiya, co-starring Arshad Warsi, Madhuri Dixit, and Naseeruddin Shah.

The following year, Huma performed as a prostitute in Sriram Raghavan’s crime thriller Badlapur, alongside Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The same year, Huma performed in the collaborative movie X: Past Is Present. The year 2016 marked the debut of Huma in Malayalam cinema with White. Huma starred in dual roles in the movie alongside Mammootty. The movie opened to generally negative reviews from critics.
