Vijayashanti Srinivas is an Indian film actress, producer and politician. In a thirty-year film career, she has appeared in more than 180 feature films in various roles in various Indian languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. She has been called “The Lady Superstar” and “Lady Amitabh” from the South Indian cinema. She won the Best Actress National Film Award for her work as a “Super Policeman” in Karthavyam (1990), for her depiction of aggression and femininity with balance and restraint. She has also won seven Filmfare Awards South Awards, six Best Actor Awards and a 2003 Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (South), and four Nandi Awards for Best Actor.

Vijayashanti was born on June 24, 1966 in Madras (Madras State) of Varalaxmi and Srinivas Prasad, who emigrated to Madras of Ramannagudem in Warangal District, Telangana. She stated that she preferred to think of herself as coming from Telangana rather than Madras, although in 2004, she never went to her parents’ village. Before starting her film career, she finished her 10th class at Indian Angels Anglo-Indian Senior High School in Holy Angels, Chennai.
