Paresh Rawal is a famous actor, thespian, and politician. He is well known for his roles as a villain as well as a comedian in more than 100 films and won several awards for his exceptional contribution to the Indian film industry. He is also a member (BJP) of the Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament.

Paresh Rawal was born in a Nagar Brahmin Gujarati family on 30 May 1955, in Mumbai. His father’s name is Dahyalal Rawal.  He is married to an actress Swaroop Sampat who was a Miss India contestant of the year 1979. Paresh has 2 sons Aditya and Anirudh.

Life Journey

Paresh Rawal completed his schooling from the Maharashtra SSC Board and Graduation from the Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics (Mumbai) in March 1974.

After his study in 1974, Paresh started doing Gujarati Theaters and acted in Gujarati plays like Dear Father which won a lot of acclamation from the audience.  Afterward, he decided to enter into the Indian entertainment industry and made his acting debut with the movie Holi in 1984. Then, he performed as a supporting actor in the movie ‘Arjun’ in 1985. But he came into the limelight with the blockbuster movie Naam in 1986.

Career

In 1993, Rawal’s lead role as freedom fighter Vallabhbhai Patel in the movie ‘Sardars brought him national and international acclaim. In the 1990s, he also starred in the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna in which he played a double role. He was noted as a character actor by both audiences and critics until the 2000 Bollywood cult classic Hera Pheri, after which he starred in several Hindi mainstream movies as a lead actor or main protagonist.

Another notable lead performance came in 2002 when he portrayed one of 3 blind bank robbers in the hit movie Aankhen, co-starring Aditya Pancholi, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, and Sushmita Sen.

Paresh, for the remainder of the 2000s, was seen in essentially comedy oriented multi-starters, mostly amongst the lead leads such as in Awara Paagal Deewana, Garam Masala, Hulchul, Hungama, Malamaal Weekly, Deewane Huye Paagal, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited,  Bhagam Bhag, Chup Chup Ke, Shankar Dada MBBS, Welcome, Mere Baap Pehle Aap, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and De Dana Dan. In the year 2010, he appeared in the film Aakrosh, based on honor killing.

In 2012, he portrayed the lead character in the superhit OMG – Oh My God. Actor Akshay Kumar was seen supporting him, and both got rave reviews for their performances. His latest notable release is Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju with Ranbir Kapoor. He portrayed actor Sunil Dutt’s role in the movie.

  • During the 1980s and 1990s, Rawal performed in more than 100 movies, in most of them as the negative role.
  • Paresh became a household name after portraying the role of a boisterous and kind-hearted Marathi landlord in the 2000 cult-classic Hera Pheri.
