In 2019, she joined politics and contested from Jadavpur Loksabha Constituency in the 2019 Indian general election as a Trinamool Congress candidate.She is a Member of Parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha from the Jadavpur constituency.
Mimi Chakraborty was born in a Bengali Brahmin Family on 11 February 1989 in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Her father’s name is Arun Chakraborty and her mother’s name is Tapashi Chakraborty. She was once in a relationship with Raj Chakraborty, who is a Bengali film director and producer. She then came into a relationship with Melih Kizilkaya, an actor.

Life Journey
Mimi Chakraborty lived her childhood in Arunachal Pradesh in the Deomali town of Tirap District and then moved to her ancestral home in Jalpaiguri with her family. She completed her schooling from Holy Child School, Jalpaiguri and later went to St. James’ School, Binnaguri. She did Bachelors in English from Asutosh College, Kolkata.
Mimi Chakraborty began her career as a model. She was one of the participants of Femina Miss India. She made her acting debut with the TV serial “Champion” that aired on Akash Bangla in 2008. Her second outline was a TV serial Gaaner Oparey, produced by nIdeas Creations. It aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011.

Controversies
- She went into a controversy after her picture, in which she can be seen wearing gloves while shaking hands with the common people during one of her election campaigns, went viral on social media. Her picture invited severe criticism and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that it was an insult to the voters. However, later, her team clarified that Mimi was suffering from burns and nail scratches on her hands and wore gloves to hide them.
- Chakraborty again attracted controversy after she posted a photo of her wearing a ‘hijab’ and wished people a Happy Ramadan on social media. She was slammed for hurting the religious sentiments of people and her actions were termed as ‘cheap publicity stunt’ to gain votes.
- After she won the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, she posted a picture of herself on social media with the Parliament in the background. She was trolled for wearing western outfits in the parliament. People told her that it was not the place of her shooting and also advised her to get serious.
- In the year 2018, Chakraborty got trolled for wearing a tee and shorts in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi. People criticized her for her inappropriate dressing for the festival.
- The Bengali actress, Subhashree Ganguly, once tweeted that Raj Chakraborty and Mimi Chakraborty have gone on a vacation to Goa. The actress slammed Ganguly for spreading false rumors about her and even clarified that she went to her hometown for some urgent work and not for a vacation.
Career
Mimi’s debut movie Bapi Bari Jaa was released on 7 December 2012. Gaaner Oparey, was the musical journey between 2 artists, Bohemian Gora and traditional Pupe and their love and in the whole process reinventing Tagore’s “music”.
Mimi played the role of Pupe, a very talented singer, belonging to an orthodox Tagore worshipping family, who used to sing Rabindra Sangeet in traditional form in concurrence with her family values. She was brilliant in all the emotions and made Pupe iconic.
Her film debut was in Bapi Bari Jaa in which she played the female lead, Dola. The movie was produced by Prosenjit Chatterjee production house, Ideas Creations.
