Maya April Moore was born in the month of June of 1989. She is a devout Christian. Kathryn Moore is her mother’s name. She was mostly responsible for Maya’s exposure in this industry. In 2005 and 2006, Maya Moore embarked on a new adventure by joining the Georgia Metros 16U Mike Travel Team. Her presence on the team was advantageous as the Georgia Metros went on to win four National Championships. Moore’s passion for basketball was rekindled when she enrolled at the University of Connecticut and joined the women’s basketball team, the Uconn Huskies.
During the 2007-08 NCAA season, she led the Huskies to a 36-2 record. The significant win marked the Huskies’ best record since they appeared in the 2004 Final Four games. She averaged 17.8 points per game in the 2007-08 season. She was voted Big East Player of the Year as a freshman, becoming only the second freshman in history to do so.
Moore’s talent continued to dazzle during her sophomore year, as she was named Big East Player of the Year for the second time. Her strong performance earned her a spot on the 2009 NCAA Final All-Tournament team. In her junior year, she again had a strong game.
