Jasjit Singh Gill is widely known as Jimmy Sheirgill, is a well-known Indian actor and film producer. He is mainly working in Hindi and Punjabi films. Jimmy rose to fame after playing the role of ‘Karan Chaudhry’ in the Bollywood film, ‘Mohabbatein’.

Jimmy Sheirgill was born in a Sikh Jat family on 3 December 1970 in Deokahia village, Sardarnagar, Gorakhpur District, Uttar Pradesh. Sheirgill hails from a family of aristocratic landowners of Punjab. Jimmy is the son of Satyajeet Singh Shergill and Late Balraj Kaur Shergill. He has a brother, Aman Shergill. In 2001, Jimmy got married to his longtime girlfriend, Priyanka Puri. The couple is blessed with a son, Veer Shergill.

Life Journey

Jimmy Shergill completed his schooling at Lucknow’s St. Paul’s college, Patiala’s Yadavindra Public School, and Nabha’s The Punjab Public School. While in school, he desired to join the Armed Forces. Jimmy attended Bikram College, Punjabi University to pursue B.Com. Thereafter, he enrolled himself in Post Graduate Government College – 11, Chandigarh, Panjab University to achieve his post-graduation. While Jimmy was in college, his cousin, Suminder convinced him to try his luck in movies.

After completing his post-graduation, he shifted to Mumbai to become an actor. Jimmy attended Mumbai’s Roshan Taneja’s acting classes to learn acting. In the year 1994, when Gulzar was directing Maachis, he went to him to ask for a possibility to assist him. At that time, Gulzar gave him a small role in the movie. Jimmy Sheirgill began his acting career in 1996 with the political thriller, Maachis. He portrayed the role of Jaimal in the film.

In 2000, Jimmy was lucky to work under the Yash Raj films banner in the movie Mohabbatein and also shared the screen with the Bollywood Superstars including Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan were in the main lead. His first ever commercially as well as critics successful movie was Sanjay Dutt starring film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. as Zaheer. This film was much loved by the audiences as well as earned tons of positive reviews from the public and film critics.

In the year 2005, Jimmy made his Pollywood debut by the Manmohan Singh’s directed Punjabi film Yaaran Naal Baharan starring Juhi Babbar, Anupam Kher, and Raj Babbar. Sheirgill impressed the Punjabi film audience with his debut film. Along with Punjabi movies, Sheirgill performed in some of the Bollywood Hit movies and had a great chance to work with the Top leading actors and actresses of Hindi cinema and he created a milestone in Bollywood through his intense acting on the silver screen.

From 2003-2018, Sheirgill performed in a number of movies including Hum Tum, Charas, Tom Dick and Harry, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, A Wednesday, Victoria No. 203, My Name Is Khan, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Tanu Weds Manu: Returns, and Veerey Ki Wedding. As a producer, Sheirgill produced his first-ever movie was Dharti (Punjabi Movie) and his film Dharti received the PTC Best Film (Critics) Award. Then after Jimmy produced some other Punjabi films like Saadi Love Story, Taur Mittran Di, and Rangeelay.
