Dimple Kapadia completed her schooling at St. Joseph’s Convent High School, Mumbai.  Dimple Kapadia is a discovery of Raj Kapoor, who introduced her to the Indian film industry in the year 1973 at the age of 14. Her debut movie was Bobby, which was a big hit at the box office.

Kapadia retired from acting following her marriage to Indian actor Rajesh Khanna earlier in 1973, and returned to the movie industry in 1984, after her divorce from Khanna. The release of her comeback movie, Saagar, was held, with Zakhmi Sher becoming the second movie of her career. Released in 1985, Saagar gained her a second Best Actress award at Filmfare, and she went on to prove herself as one of the leading actresses of Hindi cinema in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Career

The early roles she portrayed following her return included the Hitchcockian thriller Aitbaar in 1985, for which she earned positive reviews, and the commercially hi action movies Arjun and Janbaaz in 1986. During this time, Kapadia acted in numerous movies in South India, which she admitted to having made for financial gain and dropped their quality.

Dimple made a choice to accept more pressing roles and won acclaim for her role in the marital drama Kaash in 1987. In the same year, Financial success came with movies like Insaniyat Ke Dushman, Insaaf, in which she performed double roles; the controversial revenge saga Zakhmi Aurat in 198), in which she portrayed an avenging rape victim; and Ram Lakhan in 1989. Dimple began the next decade by venturing into neorealist art movies, known in India as parallel cinema such as Drishti, Lekin…, and Rudaali.

Kapadia further essayed roles parts in Prahaar, Angaar, Gardish, and Krantiveer, which earned her a 4th Filmfare Award, in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Dimple portrayed the supporting role of a divorced alcoholic in Dil Chahta Hai in 2001 and was remarked for her portrayal of the title role, a middle-aged professor, in the American production Leela in 2002. In both movies, she played women who are the object of younger men’s desire, in roles written primarily for her.
