Dale Willem Steyn particularly known by the name Dale Steyn is a South African Cricketer who is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. He was born in Phalaborwa City in South Africa. Steyn saw many ups and downs in the early phase of his cricketing career. He made his first-class debut for Northerns currently known as Titans on 17th October 2003. He didn’t make much impact in the initial phase of his career but his consecutive good performances in 2004/2005, earned him a Test Call in South African Test Team for the England tour.

Career

  • Dale Steyn made his first-class debut in 2003 for Northerns team but didn’t play much, playing only 2 first class games there in the first season.
  • He came back strong in 2004/05 season and made an impact by his strong performances which made selectors to consider him for England Tour and he was subsequently selected in the test squad for England Tour.
  • Steyn also went to play in England for Essex but he didn’t make great impact there.
  • He returned to domestic cricket after playing for Essex and made an excellent impact in the season 2005/06 which earned him a recall in the Test Squad for New Zealand series. This time Steyn grabbed this opportunity and cemented his position in the national test team.
  • After this Steyn started to play for South Africa’s National Test Team regularly despite of just played only a few matches for his domestic team.
  • Dale made his ODI debut in 2005 but his peak point came in 2007 and cemented his place in the ODI team in 2007.
  • He then went to England to play for Warwickshire in 2007 and made a huge impact by claiming 23 Wickets in 7 matches at an average of 25.86.
  • Dale even played in the 50 Overs Friends Provident Trophy Tournament and also finished as the leading wicket taker in the tournament. After this he regularly played for South Africa’s ODI team.
  • Then in the year 2019, Steyn took retirement from Test cricket to completely focus on limited overs cricket. He played his last test match on 21st February 2019 against Sri Lanka.

IPL Career

  • Dale Steyn was bought by the RCB franchise for the inaugural season of IPL in 2008. He was part of RCB’s squad till 2010 and then he was bought by Deccan Chargers in $1.2 million for the 2011 IPL season.
  • He played for consecutive 2 seasons with Deccan Chargers in 2011 and 2012.
  • Then Steyn was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for three seasons from 2013 to 2015.
  • Dale has also played for Gujarat Lions for one season in 2016.
  • Dale Steyn is currently the part of RCB Squad. He joined RCB Squad in 2019.
