Cate Blanchett is an Academy Award-winning Australian actress and theatre director best identified for performing as Elizabeth I of England in the flick Elizabeth’ and as Katharine Hepburn in the movie The Aviator’. Besides her work in films, Blanchett has also experienced a lengthy career in theatre and is a four-time Helpmann Award winner for the Best Female Actor in a Play’. She first became involved in acting while in college but was distracted about attempting it professionally. She enrolled at the University of Melbourne to study economics but dropped out soon in order to pursue an acting career.

She then flew overseas and took acting classes before settling her first acting appearance. Within years, she established herself successfully not only in her native country but also on an international level. As of March 2018, she is the only actress to earn the Academy Award nominations for playing the same character in two movies (she played Elizabeth I in both Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age’). Also, she is the only Australian artist to earn two Academy Awards for acting

Cate Blanchett was born on 14 May 1969 to June and Robert DeWitt Blanchett, Jr. in Victoria, Australia. Her mother worked as a teacher and property developer while her father served in the United States Navy and later became an advertising executive. She has a younger sister who is a theatrical designer and an older brother who is a computer systems engineer.

Her 40-year-old father died of a sudden heart attack when she was ten years old. Her mother never remarried, and her grandmother moved in to help her mother.

Blanchett studied at Ivanhoe East Primary School and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School before joining Methodist Ladies’ College. She then attended the University of Melbourne for a year before dropping out. In her late teens and early twenties, Blanchett also worked at a nursing home.

Later, she enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art and graduated from there in 1992, receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. On finishing graduation from NIDA, she reached the Sydney Theatre Company‘s production of Caryl Churchill’s “Top Girls”, then portrayed Felice Bauer, the bride, in Tim Daly’s “Kafka Dances”, winning the 1993 Newcomer Award from the Sydney Theatre Critics Circle for hework.
