His father, Sir Syed Nasim Ali, served as the Chief Justice of undivided Bengal in 1946. Elahi completed his Bachelor of Arts from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and later earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of Dhaka. He married Niloufer Manzur in 1966, who founded Sunbeams School in 1974. The couple contracted COVID-19 in 2020, leading to Niloufer’s passing on May 26, 2020.
