Some Lesser Known Facts About Anirudha Srikkanth

  • Anirudha Srikkanth is a former Indian professional cricketer widely remembered as the son of 1983 World Cup winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth. Like his father, he is also an attacking opener who represented Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL.
  • He made his first-class debut at an age of 16 in 2003-04 for Tamil Nadu in a Ranji Trophy. The same month, he also made his List-A debut. He didn’t have much success in first-class but was brilliant in the limited-overs format. He was the top scorer for India in under-19s against touring England in 2004-05. He was the fourth-highest run-getter in the inter-state Twenty20 in 2007.
  • This performance carried him to the list of 30 probables for the ICC World Twenty20 as well as the India Greens squad in the 2007-08 Challenger Trophy.
  • He scored 143 runs against England Under-19 at the Kanchanjungwa Krirangan in Siliguri in February 2005. England after winning the toss scored 228 for 9 in 50-overs. In reply, when wickets were falling at constant intervals, Srikkanth played attacking cricket and took the side to victory.
  • He represented Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) between 2008 and 2013. He scored 24 runs from 15 balls against Deccan Chargers in the 2010 semi-finals which included two sixes and a four. In 2012, he scored 18 runs from 6 deliveries in a low-scoring match against Rajasthan Royals. In 2014, Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for a whopping amount. However, he played only one game in that tournament.
  • The last time he represented Tamil Nadu was in February 2019. After that, he missed their playing XI in the entire 2019-20 Indian domestic season. The same year, he also represented Tiruppur Tamizhans in the popular Tamil Nadu Premier League 2019 season.
