Pankaj Tripathi is a well-known Indian actor and TV personality. He works predominantly in Bollywood. He is recognized for his natural acting skills and so far, has worked in more than 60 movies and 60 TV shows. The actor rose to fame with his supporting character in the film, Gangs of Wasseypur and popular web series Mirzapur.

Pankaj Tripathi was born in a Hindu family on 5 September 1976 in Belsand, a small town in Gopalganj, Bihar, India. His father’s name is Pandit Banaras Tiwari, a farmer, and a priest, and his mother, Hemwanti is a homemaker. He has 2 elder sisters and 3 elder brothers. Tripathi married Mridula on 15 January 2004 and they blessed with a daughter.

Life Journey

Pankaj Tripathi completed his schooling at D. P. H. School in Gopalganj. He was inclined towards acting right from his childhood, and merely at the age of 12, he began to perform as a girl artist at Chhath Festivals in his village. His father wanted him to be a doctor and sent him to Patna for higher studies. While studying there, he enrolled in ABVP and actively competed in college politics. Tripathi was an articulate speaker. He was also excellent at sports and imitated his college in High Jump and 100-meter-sprint. After finishing his college education, Tripathi joined a course in Hotel Management and served as a cook for 2 years at Hotel Maurya. Later, the actor worked in theatre for many years before starring in movies.

It was there in Patna that the actor got more attracted to art. Pankaj started visiting several drama shows, asking them if he can act as well. In the year 1995, Tripathi performed a small character of a local thief in the play based on Bhism Sahni’s story of Leela Nandlal, which was directed by Vijay Kumar. His execution was extremely appreciated by the fans and media alike. From thereon, he became a regular theatre artist and practiced it for around 4 years.

After spending 7 years in Patna, Pankaj relocated to Delhi. He enrolled himself in the National School of Drama, from where he graduated in 2004. Further, he returned to Patna and started theatre for four months.

Career

In 2004, Pankaj shifted to Mumbai and did an uncredited character in the movie Run, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Vijay Raaz. He did various small roles in movies and television before playing a prominent character in a TV drama named Gulal.

While shooting for Gulal, he got a call for an audition for Anurag Kashyap‘s Gangs of Wasseypur. The audition went on for about eight hours, and he was given the character of Sultan. In the year 2008, Tripathi performed in the Bahubali TV series, and later in Powder on Sony TV which is currently available on Netflix.

In his primary profession, he performed frequently negative roles and got synonymous with hoodlum roles. Later Tripathi played diverse roles and won a basic examination for the equivalent. His first movie as a lead actor was the 2017 film Gurgaon. His 2017 movie Newton was India’s legitimate passage for the Academy Award in best outside film classification. Tripathi made his debut in Tamil cinema with the movie Kaala, which was released on 7 June 2018.
